Abstract

|
Operation for varicose vein is one of the most commonly performed vascular operations. High ligation and stripping has been traditionally used as a main operative technique for varicose vein treatment. However, endovenous thermal ablation technique including radiofrequency ablation and endovenous laser ablation is now proposed as a primary technique by National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, the Society for Vascular Surgery and the American Venous Forum and European Society for Vascular Surgery. Recently, non-thermal, non-tumescent technique including mechanochemical ablation and cyanoacrylate embolization has been introduced and is widely used. When choosing a treatment technique, we should consider the high closure rate, low complication, recovery time and cost-effectiveness etc. Since most treatment techniques are reported with comparative outcomes, it cannot be concluded that any treatment is the best treatment to date. We tried to consider a suitable treatment method through a review of the latest literatures.
